Hi Hanan,

I just wanted to say a big thank you for visiting Jackson and I re his fussy eating.

I’m happy to report that since your consultation about a month ago, mealtimes have become a much more pleasant experience and my little vegetarian even finished off a whole bowl of beef casserole with pumpkin, carrot and cous cous last night and cried when he finished the bowl and was saying ‘More! More! More!’

The main changes we have made are not giving Jackson food options at dinner – if he doesn’t want what is offered, then that is fine, but there is no alternative provided.  Food is not forced on him, he has the option to eat it or not. I have also been giving Jackson a wider range of food – treats and non treats to show him that food is a good experience and not something to fear, as it had become.  I also sit down with Jackson and we eat his food together, and he is much more willing to try something if mummy or daddy are eating it. Jackson also now no longer has his bottle straight after dinner – he now has his bath first and then his bottle.  There were tears at first, but now he is used to the new routine.

Since we have changed our mealtime routine, Jackson no longer asks for yoghurt at dinner time, in fact his obsession with yoghurt has diminished, and whilst he does still enjoy his yoghurt he has now become open to trying new foods.

Jackson is now prepared to try new foods – not all new foods – but in the last couple of weeks he has now tried spreads such as hommus and avocado on crackers (which he now enjoys – previously would throw on floor straight away), peanut butter, zucchini slice, pumpkin soup, chicken chippees, custard, pikelets, beef, cous cous, strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, cheese, cheese and vegemite scroll from bakers delight, mango smoothie.  This is a huge achievement for him and I’m very proud!

Now instead of throwing his food on the floor, if he doesn’t want it he will hand it back or put it on the side or simply say ‘no more’

We still have a way to go but I now feel much more confident we are on the right track, and the fear of food and mealtimes is now gone – for both of us.

Thank you!!!!!

Jeni
